Printed patient consent forms, a clipboard, a green notebook, a highlighter and a stethoscope on a white desk

The brief

The sponsor needed English versions of consent forms, patient diaries and site instructions for an ethics committee submission, on a fixed deadline.

Approach

Clinical documents leave no room for style over sense. I translated against the sponsor’s approved terminology list, flagged eleven ambiguous source sentences for the medical writer, and kept a log of every query and its answer.

Patient-facing material was written at a plain reading level, with short sentences and terms defined on first use.

Outcome

The submission went in on time with the query log attached, which the committee said made its review faster.
